Junior High School is the featured school this month on our superintendent
Dr. Jane Petrek's Bulletin Board. The board actually is in Jane's
office, where all kinds of visitors view art, creative writing,
photographs, and, on a nearby table, sculpture when the opportunity
presents itself. All art is produced by students in the District's
various art curriculums, and every month the board changes.
These
brightly colored graphic designs are called "molas,"
which are made of mulitple layers of material (in this case paper).
A sharp knife is used to cut out shapes and designs to reveal
the different colors beneath. The craft comes from the native
people of Central America who use cloth and a quilt stitching
technique.
The project
was the inspiration of Pam Sejkor's student teacher, Terry
Spyrison, who has joined her this semester. "She's is
absolutely wonderful," exclaims Pam Sejkora, who hung
the art on Jane's Board. "This was her project, and judging
by the work displayed here, it was a tremendous hit with the students."
To
meet the teacher, Pam Sejkora, and learn more about this exciting
project, click on the video above (about three minutes). The clip
is produced in Windows Media.
