Silver Spoon Luncheons at Marshall a Golden Opportunity

April 2010

Collaborating teachers come up with a plan that provides incentives to kids that inspire them to be better citizens.

I love these opportunities to provide you with glimpses into life in our public schools. Depending on your view, you may not realize how much autonomy and creativity each school building has to build it's own unique culture. The neighborhood school is still the neighborhood school that serves its neighbors and their children, and that's a good thing.

The Silver Spoon Luncheon is an incentive program that motivates children to be better citizens, which is all part of Marshall School's total culture of positive behavior reinforcement. Hardly a child doesn't know the school's Steps to Success or the song (appropriated from High School Musical) that everyone sings that reinforces the Steps to Success message.

And then there is the unique collaborative partnership that exists between Art teacher Nadine Lerche and Wellness Physical Education teacher, Ann Seamer. They took supervising the lunch responsibility elevated it to a new level. This short movie tells the story better than mere words could ever do.
