Synergy Brass!
The Celebrated Brass Quintet, whose mission is to inspire young musicians, plays for Roosevelt music students, and it becomes a big hairy deal.

Video Produced by Gary Olsen
October 2007
ubuque Arts Council, with the help of Alliant Energy, and the Dubuque Racing Association, brought a most interesting and talented brass quintet from Boston to Dubuque, Synergy Brass. These five 20-something musicians not only display outstanding virtuosity on their respective instruments, but they are thoroughly entertaining. Judging by the laughs on the video clip, the Roosevelt Middle School students fortunate to hear them absolutely loved them. And that's the whole point. The mission of these musicians is to send the elevator back down, so to speak. Inspire young musicians to stay with it, have fun, and make music an integral part of one's life.

Synergy Brass, which has been touring for about a decade since these guys were students, include Jon Hurrell (French horn and they guy with the tumbleweed hairstyle), Chris Ohara (trumpet), Bobby Thorp (trumpet and founder of the group), Bo Clifton (trombone), and Jesse Chavez (tuba). All these guys perform and teach other gigs, but the chemistry of this ensemble has endured. There's an underlying but crystal clear message of inspiration and motivation that is particularly aimed at young musicians.
The video we produced (about 34 minutes of the entire session) does a better job than words to convey their talent, energy, enthusiasm and message.
Incidentally, if you would like to learn more about Synergy Brass, complete with member bios and links to MYSPACE blogs, a fan site, photos and contact info, by all means click here. Their website is fantastic.
