elcome
to Sageville's Historic Treasure Hunters' Web page. We are building
a historical image database for local history studies. We will
be venturing into various neighborhoods and historic districts
to capture not just the historic icons that we are familiar
with, but some hidden history as well. For example, you will
see below an image of the fence post outside the home of the
famous meat packing baron of the 19th Century Mr. Ryan. He was
a lifelong friend of Ulysses S. Grant, Civil War General and
post-Civil-War President of the United States. So Mr. Ryan had
Grant's likeness molded into his wrought iron fence posts! There
are also some homes that we photographed that not many people
(even Dubuquers) know about. They are very old, and we are doing
the historic research on them to find out who built them, and
who lived in them. You can click on any photo below to download
the more printable image.
