Welcome to Senior High School...

The Movie

Students take on the task of creating a video for incoming freshman to make them feel welcome and part of the "RamFam."

December 2011

Approximate Length 13 minutes

his was an interesting project that was financed in part by a state Safe and Drug Free Schools Grant. It enabled professional videographer, Gary Olsen, to supervise and direct high school students in a completely improvisational video project that worked not from a script but from a simple shot list with major talking points. It was up to the students to determine what kind of performance would best convey the information. Made sense since they came up with the list.

With the help of guidance counselors, the students collaborated on "Welcome to Senior High School," targeting incoming freshmen. This is a group of students that are entering an important phase of their educational careers, and the event is among the most significant in a student's life.

"There is a few frightened and several misinformed students entering high school every year, and everyone on this project," explain Olsen, "wanted to deal with these fears and misconceptions head on."

The result is this 12 minute video and we think you will thoroughly enjoy it.
