It's an Encounter with Animals...
a Learning Expedition

Table Mound Elementary School Students Bring Their Pets to School
Video Adventure and Photos by Gary Olsen, December 2001

ith a classroom full of kids and pets, dogs, cats, even hermit crabs... animals of every size, shape and description, you might expect pandemonium. But no... it was very orderly, with students quietly listening to each presentation as their classmates told of their responsibilities on behalf of their animals. The guest speaker from the Humane Society was extremely impressed. He brought three dogs of his own. The day was all about animals, a learning "expedition," one of many that Table Mound Elementary students embark upon throughout the year (they brought us Rocket Day, and remember that celebration of local history we wrote about last year?). Table Mound is an Expeditionary Learning school.
