First Lady Launches Literacy Program
Video and Audio by Andrew Pecham, Clarke College
September 14, 2005 Christie Vilsack, Iowa's first lady, was in Dubuque at Loras College to help launch a new Literacy Education program funded by a grant from Verizon. The ceremony was held at Loras because they will in charge of designing and activating the curriculum to produce more and better reading teachers in the community which Loras serves. Representatives were there from both Holy Family and Dubuque Community Schools, and Tom Tauke, former congressman and now Vice President of Verizon, was on hand to present the check. He also made some excellent remarks which we have on video and podcast. We also heard from the Governor, Tom Vilsack, and Gary Olsen got exclusive interviews with Christie and Tom on the subject of literacy and (in Tom's case) technology in the telecommunication industry. The podcast and the movie is just under 25 minutes long.
