Joe Tollari, Science Teacher, Senior High School

He student taught at Senior High when he was a student at Loras College. Dubuque Schools offered him a contract, and he remained 34 years.

Joe Tollari was a student at Loras College when he received an offer to student teach a science class at Senior High School. That was 34 years ago, and the Des Moines native never left. A lifelong learner, Joe has been named Teacher of The Year by his peers, the Dubuque Education Association and school administrators. Also honored at the Dubuque Teacher Appreciation Dinner held at the Dubuque Greyhoud Park on the 23rd: Thom Determan received the TEAM Award, and John Jungbluth and Dan Walsh, volunteer campaign organizers for the Penny Tax Campaign last fall, each received the Friend of Education Award.
