ubuque artist and illustrator, Gary Olsen draws a cartoon or two every week to post on the Dubuque Schools Website. This section is part of a catalog of all cartoons that have appeared thus far. Also, individual cartoons are linked to larger more printable files. Just click on them and the larger file will appear in your browser.

Gary has been drawing all of his life. His cartoons have won awards and have appeared in books and magazines across the nation and newspapers such as USA Today. Gary also teaches cartooning as well as photography and design.

Most of Gary's cartoons deal with education and the relationships between children and adults. "Many of my ideas are distilled from personal observations and actual things I've heard people say. Some are inspired by news items. I don't think I will ever run out of material. When I'm out and about, I will frequently pull out my smart phone and jot down an idea or something I heard someone say. As it turns out," says Gary, "the world is a funny place without even trying hard."
