November 2010

Video by Gary Olsen with assistance from Sue Schulz and Cheryl Werner

his month it's Kennedy, Carver, Irving, Lincoln elementaries and Washington Middle School have contributed works to our virtual gallery, and they are amazing. Developing visual acuity, a sense of line, composition, color, contrast and value along with learning technique and discovering one's own creativity and self expression are among the learning objectives of our district's art curriculum. Research has shown that learning how to develop these skills through hands-on projects impacts the student's entire set of personal learning tools. The goal is not necessarily to develop great artists who go on to successful careers (though we certainly do that) but we provide students with life-long skills in visual forms of communication.
