DRIVER EDUCATION COURSE GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS

MATERIALS

You are expected to bring your covered textbook, notebook paper, and something to write with to class each day. Do not come to class unprepared! For each simulator you will need to bring paper (simulator score sheet), and something to write with. When driving you will need your instruction permit each time (no exceptions), and your glasses (if restricted).

CLASS TIME

You are expected to take notes. Driver education notebook or folder is recommended. Lectures will compliment the textbook material. For each day of class you will be responsible for a chapter or an assignment. Refer to assignment sheet for each days assignment. If you miss a class (for any reason), you will have a make-up paper for that class. Get make-up papers from your classroom instructor. It is your responsibility to get these make-up papers, and to get them done!!!! When you miss a class you need to get notes from someone that was in class. Notes will be very helpful to you! Listed below you will see the grading scale – note: 74% and below is an "F".

SIMULATOR

You will be assigned a simulator time for the entire semester. This is your time, and you need to be there. Any and all simulators that you miss must be made-up. Contact your simulator instructor and schedule a make-up simulator.

BEHIND-THE WHEEL

Everyone will be scheduled to drive once a week for the entire semester. This time slot is yours for the semester, and you need to make every effort not to miss driving. If you miss a drive, you will have to make it up! Contact your driving instructor to schedule a make-up drive. If you miss three drives (for any reason), it is virtually impossible to make three drives up. No one will be permitted to drive with a cast, sling, brace, or wrap on right foot, either hand, either arm, neck, back, or shoulders.

HOMEWORK

Read chapter (s) assigned before chapter (s) is discussed in class. All assignments must be turned in on the due date! (no late assignments for credit). If absent – turn in the assignment next day you are at school. Preparation will require you to read and review the chapter(s) and take notes in class and study your notes.

TESTS

You will take all tests with your class if you are in class. If you miss a test, see your instructor to schedule a make-up time. Failure to get missed test made up in two weeks will result in a "zero" on that test.

GRADES

Driver education is a pass/fail class consisting of three phases: classroom, simulator, and behind-the-wheel. You must pass all 3 phases in order to complete driver education. You must have 75% of the total points offered to pass the classroom phase. If you have 85% going into the final, you will not have to take one of the finals. If you have 95% going into the final exams, you will not have to take either of the final exams. ** note: to exempt one or both finals you can not miss more than three days of class (for any reason)

ATTENDANCE

It is very important for you to be in class, simulator, and driving. State law regulates the amount of time you need. It will become difficult to pass if your attendance is poor. Attendance is the number one reason students fail driver education.

TARDIES

You are expected to be in your seat when the bell rings. If you are not in your assigned seat when the bell rings, you will be considered tardy. Each time you are tardy you will be asked to sign the "tardy book." On your third tardy, you will be given worksheets to do.

Remember it takes 75% to pass class. You will need to work at getting and maintaining 75%. Can you do this, absolutely! Your test scores and current grades will be posted on the bulletin board outside of class weekly. There are no surprises! If you do not get 75%, then you will not pass driver education.

All of you have the opportunity and ability to pass driver education. Will you pass? Only you can answer that! Listed below are ways you can assure yourself of passing driver education. You must pass all three phases of driver education.

  1. Asking for help, if you need it!
  2. Put some effort into passing driver education
  3. Working to your ability on a consistent
  4. Attendance is important in class, simulator, and driving.
  5. Getting 75% or higher in the classroom and simulator phase.
  6. Completing make-up worksheets after you miss a class.
  7. Make-up any simulator that you miss.
  8. Show your driving instructor that you can drive responsibly and safe!

IF YOU DRIVE ILLEGALLY AND GET CAUGHT, YOU WILL BE DROPPED FROM DRIVER EDUCATION. ILLEGAL DRIVING MEANS DRIVING WITHOUT A LICENSE, PARENT OR GUARDIAN IN CAR.
