Fun Run 2011

Dubuque Community School District

September 20, 2011

A movie by Brandon and Justin Noel

Approximate Length 15 minutes

ubuque Schools Health and Wellness teachers have been conducting this exciting annual event for several years, now, and it's held at the picturesque Eagle Point Park in late September. Interesting to note: the road that loops around the park is exactly one mile in length which is, as one organizer put it, "Very convenient!" anywhere from 125 to 150 students and family members show up to actually run in this event, but not everyone runs. Several walk the course.

This is the third year that our official Channel 16 Crazy Cam has covered this event. The host has been Justin Noel, a 6th grader at Eisenhower Elementary (Justin was a 3rd grader the first year he hosted the show). And this year the event was almost not covered. In an extraordinary example of "can do" spirit, Brandon Noel, Justin's brother, stepped up to run the Crazy Cam.

Brandon Noel

Media developer for the district, Gary Olsen, who usually tapes the proceedings for cable TV, was unable to do it due to a last-minute trip to Iowa City Hospitals to accompany his ailing father-in law who had to undergo a surgical procedure. When it was apparent that Gary couldn't make the Saturday morning event, Brandon Noel stepped up to the plate.

Brandon has accompanied Gary on all sorts of video productions and he knows the equipment inside and out. He has worn the Steadicam vest only one time before. It was too big at that time, but being a middle schooler (8th grade at Roosevelt), just wait a few minutes and he may grow into it. The Steadicam is worn by an operator, and attached to it is a spring dampened armature that supports the video camera and affords fluid movement for tracking shots where the camera is continuously on the move. This was Brandon's first opportunity to produce a video segments from start to finish. As you will see, it worked out beautifully.
