Parents of Kindergarten Students

Here's What you Need to Know:

By Iowa Law, all children to be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2012-2013 school year must be age 5 by September 15th.

Special Note: For those parents interested in picking up registration forms in advance, please contact your school or you can download the forms from the web-site.

Parents need to bring their child to the school's scheduled Kindergarten Roundup along with a copy of your child's birth certificate and any immunization records you have. If you have questions regarding the school boundaries, please contact the DCSD Transportation Dept. at 552-3275.

In preparation for the school year, we ask all incoming Kindergarten students to attend Kindergarten Roundup at their home district school. The Student Fee for a K-5th grade full-time student for the 2012-2013 school year will be determined in March 2012 per School Board approval.

The Dubuque Community School District has assigned a home district school to each address in the district. Parents may apply to have their student attend a school other than their home district school by Open Enrollment, however, kindergarten students must register at the school assigned to their residence prior to applying for Open Enrollment. Open Enrollment is based strictly on student numbers and an application does not guarantee acceptance. There is no additional charge for Open Enrollment. Parents of students approved for in-district open enrollment are responsible for transporting their student to the new school. Elementary Open Enrollment Applications will be available at any of the elementary schools, at The Forum ( 2300 Chaney Road) and on this website from March 15th through May 2nd, 2012.
