Iowa Children's Choice Book Reviews

Students Review Their Favorite Books

Video by Gary Olsen (DCSD)

irst of all, this is one of the best projects I've ever worked on in large part because of the fine cooperation of our media specialists at each of the participating schools. I can't tell you how delighted I was with the outcome. In fact, I thought so highly of the effort, we made this an annual project incorporating the Iowa Children's Choice Awards books and authors. What a great way to encourage book reading!

Life is not without irony. Asking children to read a book and then review it on television? We are using television, traditionally thought of as largely a frivolous waste of time, and we turned it into an incentive to read books! The students now become the teachers as they inspire legions of other children to read the books they so enthusiastically enjoyed

Irving Elementary School does the Iowa Children's Choice Award Books. Below are other schools participating in this project

Lincoln School (and some Hoover) Due to circumstances beyond our control (illness or ITBS), we have to move kids to available recording dates.
Table Mound School (and some Hoover... see explanation above)
Lincoln Bonus Report: Here's a special addition to the list. A single book report, but it's a doozy. It involves a really clever hamster, his best friend whose a frog, and a custodian that might be an alien. Who knows? Ask these two guys.
Attention Media Specialists: Download the Looks at Books Printable Logo! This is ideal for posters and handouts as you recruit new readers to the program. Right click your mouse and choose "Save Target As..." to save the printable file to your hard drive or personal graphics directory. You can resize the logo to any size you wish as long as you make it smaller. If you want a smaller logo than the high res file click here.
