Looks at Books

Irving Elementary School October 2009

Video by Gary Olsen

An exciting way to encourage reading is to ask students if they would do a book review... on television. Needless to say, it's a tempting proposition. And here's the irony. We are using what has traditionally been thought of as a frivolous distraction and turned it into an incentive to learn. Of course we always knew TV could do that under the right circumstances. And in these book reviews, students become the teachers, serving as role models and inspiration to legions of other children. Join us as Dubuque Schools "Looks at Books."
