10/21/14 - Dubuque High Schools to Participate in Iowa College Application Campaign

Dubuque Senior High School and Hempstead High School will participate in this year’s Iowa College Application Campaign, a statewide program sponsored by the Iowa College Student Aid Commission. It is part of a national effort to encourage high school seniors to start the college application process. MORE

10/8/14 - Portable Classroom Moving from Kennedy to Hoover, Oct. 9

A portable classroom from Kennedy Elementary School will hit the streets tomorrow morning, October 9, when it departs for its new home at Hoover Elementary. The move will begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow and is expected to last approximately two hours. MORE

9/15/14 - Pre-School Spots Still Available Throughout Dubuque

Additional pre-school spots exist in some Dubuque Community School District Schools as well as in community partners schools, all as part the statewide free four-year-old-preschool program. MORE

5/23/14 – Dubuque Public High Schools Name Valedictorians and Salutatorians

The 2013-14 Dubuque Community School District Teacher of the Year was named at the annual Educators’ Recognition Dinner on May 8, hosted by the school district and the Dubuque Education Association. Kate Riepe, an English teacher at Hempstead High School, was selected for the honor. Outside of the classroom, she is also a theater director and speech coach at the school. MORE

5/8/14 – Riepe Named District Teacher of the Year

Each year, Senior High School and Hempstead High School recognize the graduates who have achieved the highest academic rank in their class. The student with the highest rank is named the class valedictorian and the student with the second-highest rank is named the salutatorian. MORE

4/4/14 –Medical Associates Foundation Grant to Help Prepare Students for Healthcare Careers

Recognizing the importance of continually developing highly skilled healthcare professionals, the Medical Associates Clinic Foundation of Dubuque has provided $150,000 in funding to Dubuque’s three high schools to help further prepare students interested in pursuing education and careers in the field. Hempstead High School, Senior High School and Wahlert High School will each receive $50,000 in total over the next three years to support programming in science and health coursework. MORE

3/20/14 –City and School District Indoor Aquatic Center Study Public Engagement Meetings

A series of public engagement meetings have been scheduled and a new online tool will be launched as part of a feasibility study exploring the possibility of a community indoor aquatic center in Dubuque. MORE

Preparing for kindergarten is an exciting time for children and parents alike. The help ease the transition, schools in the Dubuque Community School District are holding a series of Kindergarten Welcome Events to help students and families get acquainted with their school and its staff in preparation for the 2014-15 school year. 3/6/14 –Prescott Elementary School Charter Renewed

The State of Iowa Board of Education renewed the charter designation for Prescott Elementary School on Thursday, March 6, at its meeting in Des Moines through the conclusion of the 2017-18 school year. MORE

3/3/14 –Dubuque Community Schools Selected for First Year of State Teacher Leadership Funding

The Iowa Department of Education recently announced that the Dubuque Community School District is in the first group of Iowa school districts selected to launch teacher leadership systems next school year. The competitive grant will provide approximately $3.3 million in additional annual funding to the district for enhancements to its teacher leadership system. MORE
