ith so many people online in our community, and with the popularity of audio downloads on the Internet, we decided to create an online radio show. It was also reasoned that complex and even emotional issues were sometimes easier to discuss than write about. Plus, you will likely learn more in a shorter amount of time by listening to our shows, and you can actually listen while doing someting else.
Let us know what you think of this means of communication, and by all means, submit a topic for discussion or a response to what you hear on these online broadcasts. E-mail your questions and suggestions at this address by clicking here.

The District has applied to the state for "Charter School" status that will allow the new school to become the first of its kind "magnet" for visual and performing arts. To learn more about the district's strategic plan for this facility, and to listen to an audio interview that will play in your browser or that can be downloaded to your personal portable MP3 player device, click on the appropriate button in the box. |

December 2005: Meet Vicki Kelly, Manager of Dubuque School District's Transportation Department. Yup... she manages school buses, but also trucks, and all the other vehicles, drivers, mechanics and staff that support them. We sat down in her office and talked about the recent bus vandalism, how decisions are made to delay or cancel school, and other less emotional but fascinating topics. Gary Olsen conducts the interview. |

December 2005: John Burgart, our Superintendent of Schools covers the recent school board election and reflects on the contributions made by two outgoing boardmembers. We ask the tough question about drug dogs in our schools that was a contentious issue during the school board campaign. We talk to John about No Child Left Behind and the Dubuque Schools on the "watch" and "at risk" lists. We discuss the construction projects, the proposed new West End elementary school, and the downtown school currently being built. It may become a charter school with an emphasis on the arts. How will this school contribute to the district and the downtown neighborhood? |
