Instructional Board Meeting
October 26, 2009
President Krueger called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. at the Forum with the following members present: Beytien, Brannon, Davis, Krueger, Loeppke, Mennig, Stephens. Additional officers of the Board present: Godinez, Lucas. Executives present: Devaney, Hall, Holm, Puls, Rheingans.
Moved (Stephens) and seconded to approve the agenda as submitted. Motion carried 7-0.
Moved (Mennig) and seconded to suspend the rules of order and go into open forum. Motion carried 7-0.
Moved (Mennig) and seconded to reinstate the rules of order and return to regular session. Motion carried 7-0.
Moved (Mennig) and seconded to approve the District's Fiscal Year 2009 request to the Iowa School Budget Review Committee (SBRC) for allowable growth for the negative special education balance for the 2008-2009 school year. Motion carried 7-0.
Moved ( Davis ) and seconded to approve the elimination of the required Teacher Quality inservice day on November 25, 2009. Motion carried 7-0.
Dr. Scott McLeod is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Educational Administration program at Iowa State University . He is also the Director of the UCEA Center for the Advanced Study of Technology Leadership in Education (CASTLE), the nation's only center dedicated to the technology needs of school administrators. McLeod, a leading expert on K-12 school technology, spoke about technology, leadership and the future of schools. He insisted on a different kind of instruction that would allow students to become interactive learners. We are living in a digital, globalized era where there is a dramatic change in required job skills. Schools must keep up by changing its delivery of learning.
