Instructional Board Meeting

November 28, 2011

President Beytien called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. at the Forum with the following members present at roll call: Barton, Beytien, Davis, Donohue, Krueger, Ryan, Strelo. Additional officers of the Board present: Godinez, Lucas. Executives present: Devaney, Kelleher, Rheingans.

Moved ( Davis ) and seconded to approve the agenda as submitted. Motion carried 7-0.

Moved ( Davis ) and seconded to receive and file proof of publication and authorize payment of the publication costs to the Telegraph Herald . Motion carried 7-0.

Moved ( Davis ) and seconded to open the public hearing to allow public comments on the proposed Dalzell Field renovation project. Motion carried 7-0. Seven individuals addressed the Board during the public hearing.

Moved ( Davis ) and seconded to close the public hearing and return to regular session. Motion carried 7-0.

Moved (Barton) and seconded to suspend the rules of order and go into open forum. Motion carried 7-0.

Moved ( Davis ) and seconded to reinstate the rules of order and return to regular session. Motion carried 7-0.

Cheryl Werner reviewed the 2011 advanced placement totals by score, score summary, district summary with comparable groups, total exams and total enrollment, scholar awards and 2012 exam calendar. Advanced placement allows prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. 112 Dubuque Community School District high school students have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams.

Moved ( Davis ) and seconded to approve the Foreign/Extended Travel Domestic Student Trip proposals as submitted. Motion carried 7-0.

Moved (Ryan) and seconded to approve the following policies as revised: #5405 – Wellness; #5301 – Fund-Raising by and for School Approved Organizations; #7200 – Administration of Medication to Students; #2312 – Order of Business. Motion carried 7-0.

Board Salutes –

Lincoln Elementary School exceeded their United Way fundraising goal.

President Beytien declared the meeting adjourned at 6:26 p.m.
