SUPER SENIOR PROGRAM

Return to Transition Section Main Overview and Table of Contents

The Super Senior Program is designed for adult students with moderate to profound disabilities. When these students reach the age of 18 or have completed 40 educational credits, they may choose from three options to help them achieve independence.

  • They may graduate and enter the adult world.
  • They may continue with a traditional high school education up through the age of 21.
  • They may become involved in the Super Senior Program.

By choosing to participate in the Super Senior Program, a young adult no longer attends school in a school building. Instead, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed and tailored to meet the student’s personal goals within the community. Some examples of IEP goal areas are:

  • Employment:
  • Transition to adult services
  • Vocational evaluations
  • Job development
  • Job coaching
  • Career Exploration
  • Independent Living:
  • Transition to adult services
  • Tours of apartments, group homes
  • Assistance with securing a roommate, housing assistance, and selecting an apartment/house
  • Mobility Training:
  • Accessing public transportation
